Jason Nicholas Miller (born December 24, 1980), is an American mixed martial arts middleweight fighter known for both his flashy entrances and exciting fighting style. He primarily utilizes Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai, and trains at Team Quest in Temecula, California. Jason has also trained extensively with Randy Couture, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Marc Laimon. He regularly co-hosts "Mayhem Mondays" on the Jason Ellis Show on Sirius satellite radio. Mayhem also hosts a reality show called Bully Beatdown, which airs on MTV and MTV2.

Early Life


Jason Miller was born in an army hospital December 24th 1980. Both parents were in the military and spent most of his youth moving around the United States, residing on Army bases' government housing- the longest on Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He trained traditional martial arts for periods as a child, and his father, an 82nd Airborne paratrooper was a former amateur boxer. Miller has attributed a lot of his fighting experience in interviews to neighborhood street fights and brawls with his father. Jason became interested in mixed martial arts at the age of 16 after watching video tapes of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Pride, and Vale Tudo Brazil. He began his training after donning a hockey chest protector and tae kwon do gloves and losing a sparring match to a smaller, weaker, friend of his, by way of triangle choke. He became very determined to learn jujitsu, as well as kickboxing and began fighting at the age of 17. He was kicked out of school for fighting and had to move to a small rural town for his senior year of high school, that happened to have an early mixed martial arts school. He began serious training that year, and resumed wrestling- something he gave up as a freshman. He missed his senior prom and took a date to watch him fight his first professional MMA bout in Virginia Beach, Virginia in April of 1999. After leaving his home, he began moving around the country to pursue his MMA career. Fighting in small events around the country and teaching martial arts to sustain his lifestyle, he is notorious for living in a van outside of the HB Ultimate Training Center, in Huntington Beach, California. He also lived in various gyms and rooms for rent as he traveled to Las Vegas, Hawaii, and Los Angeles to further his knowledge of fighting.

Mixed martial arts career


Mayhem has fought in a variety of organizations, most notably Strikeforce ICON Sport, Ultimate Fighting Championship and DREAM. He holds wins over competition such as Falaniko Vitale, Ronald Jhun, Egan Inoue, Denis Kang, Kala Hose Toby Imada and Robbie Lawler. After the Ronald Jhun fight, a riot broke out and Miller was punched in the back of the head by a fellow fighter, Mark Moreno. This set the stage for a grudge match, and Miller dominated Moreno, finishing him with an armbar at the end of round one- making the famous shaka sign before finishing him. Mayhem became most famous in a bloody battle with Canadian superstar Georges St. Pierre at UFC 52. He lost by unanimous decision. On September 2, 2006, Mayhem won the Icon Sport Middleweight title from "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler by arm triangle in the third round. In December of the same year, Mayhem lost his first title defense to Frank Trigg via TKO in the second round, a fight many thought he was the favorite to win. On October 5, 2006, Miller participated in Anything Goes, a professional wrestling event by Action Zone Wrestling, of which he is a fan. He challenged DDB to a "MMA Mayhem" match. He would go on to defeat DDB via tapout due to an armbar. Mayhem is currently fighting for Japanese MMA-promotion DREAM where he was a part of the promotion's 2008 Middleweight Grand Prix. He was eliminated by Ronaldo de Souza at DREAM.4 in the semi-finals of the tournament.

Miller lost a unanimous decision to "Jacare" in a bout that saw him defend submissions for the majority of the time. Miller and Jacaré fought again, but this time for the Dream Middleweight belt (title that is vacant since Gegard Mousasi moved to the Light Heavyweight division). The fight ended in a frustrating No Contest, Miller landed a soccer kick in Jacaré's forehead. The kick opened a huge gash in Jacaré's head, making the doctors stop the fight. Soccer kicks are not allowed in Dream so the fight turned in No Contest, since the kick was unintentional. Both fighters agreed to face each other in an event in September 2009. The future of this rematch became uncertain as de Souza later signed with the Strikeforce promotion.

On August 24, 2009, Jason "Mayhem" Miller signed to fight Jake Shields at Strikeforce 20 in October now that Strikeforce, Dream and M-1 Global have begun a partnership.  The fight was later moved to November 7, and was shown on CBS as a part of Strikeforce: Fedor vs Rogers. The fight was also to be for Strikeforce's Middleweight title as Cung Le stepped down as champ to pursue his acting career. Miller lost the fight for Strikeforce's vacant Middleweight title via unanimous decision to Jake Shields. Although unable to resist the takedown from Shields, he scored a few slams himself late in the first round, and came the closest to finishing the fight out of either competitor when he sunk in a rear naked choke with 10 seconds remaining in the third round, also locking Shields up with a body triangle. The submission was scuppered by the end of the round time. Most people thought that Miller won the fight even though Shields received the unanimous decision. In a late MMA poll 73% of viewers felt mayhem won that fight while 10% felt it could of gone either way.
