Whitney Houston died. That was not very surprising to me, given her trainwreck years with Bobby Brown, but I guess it’s sad for her family nonetheless. I caught some flack on Twitter for making fun of her death, but you have to understand where I’m coming from. I think we should make light of death. It’s something that we all have to do eventually, and we shouldn’t be afraid of it. We really should just embrace the fact, and make as much positive change on the world as we can in the short amount of time we have here. My Uncle died of lung cancer. It was sad. I did tell my dad, “He had a pack of Marlborough’s rolled in his sleeve every time that I saw him- he knew he was dancing with the devil.” and my dad responded, “I know, but I can’t help but be sad about it.” Whitney danced with the devil one too many times and this time he stepped on her foot.

The conservative party in our country is confusing to me. They claim to want to shrink government, but don’t accept the gays as part of our society, wanting to extend laws into our bedrooms, and lock up people who’s only crime is doing drugs. They say that their religious freedom is being stomped out by liberals, but they cite Obama’s plan to offer women birth control coverage even at a Catholic Hospital. I’ve been to many Catholic Hospitals for treatment, and I’m surprised I didn’t burst into flames. If I did, at least the burn ward would’ve been close. Not everyone that goes to or works at a Catholic Hospital is Catholic, so I don’t get the reasoning. If the hospital takes federal money, they should cover all people of all faiths and those with no faith. That’s the right thing to do. That’s American. No one is shoving Nuva-rings into women without their consent.

John Glenn is 90. He made a trip around the earth three times in 5 hours 50 years ago. That’s unreal. I can’t believe humankind is so capable of these awesome feats, and still has the problems of genocide, wars, and obesity. Getting old makes me nervous. Honestly when I was a kid, I didn’t think I would make it to as old as I am right now. Now that I’m here, I’m not sure if I can see myself getting to 60 let alone 90. I guess I will give a go of it, and see how it turns out. The thing I didn’t realize when I was younger, is that time inevitably moves forward, and what you do now affects the future in some way. If you’re a youngin, take not of that- the only thing that has given me any success in life is setting goals and working towards them. John Glenn had the goal to fly around the planet in outer space, and he’s still here to tell the tale.

This post is more like poetry than something to crunch your brain up around. I get all preachy sometimes, and the message really, is check your friends and family members for signs of cancer, autism, or mesothelioma.

I can connect these bad sentence structures to any part of your house, home or handheld device because of manifest destiny. If I were to make a word salad, would you care to try some? Would you like it with the Dijon Balsamic? Honey mustard gas?

Every squirrel just wants to fly. Spending his days, arguing with the birds over what time to wake up. Foraging. Chewing. All in the shadow of their bath. The birds didn’t create it themselves, they retained it in the inheritance settlement.

I will ride my flying jetski until you pry it from my cold, wet hands. I’m tired of life on four wheels. Or even two. Let’s leave the confines of the terraform and can-can at the kardasians. I’ll pull you on this rope.

Hang on, things are gonna get weird.

Before the internet, the people that aren’t fortunate enough to be posted up in a palatial estate, surrounded by armed guards donning colorful berets, we’re pretty much forced to bear the brunt of whatever their leader decided. Take Syria for example. This is the one conflict that I have watched unfold in it’s entirety- mainly because of the easy accesibiliy of knowledge from the internet, as well as major media outlets, like CNN taking footage and reports from the frontlines of the conflict straight from YouTube and blogging sites. Here is a quick breakdown, from my memory of what happened.

Al Bashar is the president there, and has been since his daddy was president, and he pretty much runs shit like a honey badger. Not caring about anyone else besides the people in his country that support him, without question. Life is good for those people, so they don’t complain. Most of them live in the capital city, where all his military goons are, so it would be impossible to protest his actions anyway. Hundreds of miles away, in another small city, the goons aren’t quite as populous, but they all have a sense of entitlement, due to running shit there for so long. Well one guy was getting a ticket on his shop by one of the government’s henchman, and during the disagreement, got beat up. This was just business as usual in these parts, and before wifi wouldn’t have made the papers- but this guy, and his facebook friends, twitter followers, hell, Linked-in contacts got fired up. They took to the streets, protesting the unfair bashing of some simple shopkeep, getting attention from the media.

Fast forward to Homs, the most famous place on the list, and some 15 year old kids, must’ve seen a YouTube video write some grafitti on a wall that says “Down With The Regime.” Now let’s break for a moment from the story to remind everyone that people in an extreme place of power are generally pretty comfortable there, and feel safe doing whatever it is they’ve been doing for years. This silly graffitti by a high school kid could’ve been punished with some community service or some after school detention, but that would not send a message to the people. The message instead, was a kidnapping of the children and days of torture. Not “nice guy american water-boarding torture,” no, this was real “Vietnam-tiger box torture,” intense flogging, and ripping the kids fingernails out.

Homs went into a flurry of e-mails, status updates and text messages and Homs boiled over. People took to the streets with giant protests, flag waving, drum beating, song singing, all with the call, “DOWN WITH BASHAR!” A famous singer made a catchy song that everyone would sing, the regime cut his throat out. The mother of one protest organizer said she didn’t know where her son was, the regime grabbed her younger son and cut off his genitals and left him in the street to die. In between these events, murderous “Death Squads” would roll into neighborhoods and break up protests with tear gas. When that wasn’t enough, it was live gunfire. When that wasn’t enough, they rolled tanks into neighborhoods, and shelled areas with mortar rounds. Death from above, for anyone that speaks out against the regime.

Many died. Many more were wounded, but you can’t go to the hospital when you are at war with your own government, when you get there, you are snatched buy armed guards and whisked away to never be seen again. But something happens to you that is much more significant, particularly in Syrian culture. You have now become a martyr. A symbol of “the cause”- a symbol of something, something much greater than yourself.

Here in America, we do not particularly relish in the thought of martyrdom. We take our freedoms for granted, because for as long as we have known, we live relatively free. Certainly we live much more free than many countries in the world, and I really am quite thankful that I was lucky enough to end up living here rather than Syria or under an oppressive regime that tries to squash out rebellion the moment it pops up. We all have the right to protest peacefully and demonstrate without violent retaliation- or at least so it seems. At the Occupy Protests, we are getting a taste of what happens when you challenge the status quo- tear gas, flashbangs, and riot shields are all making appearances on the nightly news.

When the economy is good and life is easy for us, we are content to go on about our lives, uncomplaining. But what we are seeing now is an unprecedented unrest in our country. Our middle class is shrinking as the wealth gap in the country widens. The kings at the top of the heap are posting record profits, while the rest of us shoulder the burden. The 99% has risen through this Internet Awakening, and although I think we are in for turbulent times ahead, I believe the country will make some major changes, and be a much better place for it. The political system is owned by those that can buy it, with major corporations spending as much or more on lobbyists as they do on taxes. Mitt Romney pays a 13% tax rate, “As much as I’m legally obligated to pay!” but most people who don’t watch the news don’t realize, HE is one of the guys who makes the laws, even opposing a tax hike back in 2008 that would’ve seen him pay a bit more tax on his vast fortune. The game is much more fun to play, when you write the rules.

I wish I could just turn my brain off and not care about these things. I could just go to the gym, do my fights, do my television shows and not worry about the rest of the world, but I can’t. It would be a responsible thing to do as a US citizen, as a human being or a citizen of the world. I urge you to do the same thing. You have to remember, that as humans, we are all cousins. We are related somewhere down millions of years on our family tree by a common ancestor, and we have the responsibility to take care of our fellow man. As an American, we have all been granted certain “unalienable rights” by the men that started this country. Among those is the right to free speech. A big part of the reason that I opposed SOPA and PIPA, despite doing business with one of the major supporters of the bills, the UFC, is that the way they were written, they would most certainly allow the coorporations to crush out many forms of free speech without the due process of the law. Thanks to the founding fathers, I have the right to say this, and you have the right to disagree with me.So now that I have reminded you of your rights, please feel free to exercise them. Do all that you can to make a difference in the world. It’s getting much easier with the internet.

Dana White was right. He made some disparaging comments about my performance, and I agree with him. I displayed the worst of everything that night in the octagon. I was tense in round one and I locked up after that. I didn’t perform to my potential, and I take full responsibility for it. That wasn’t a UFC caliber performance, and I’m not happy about it- I won’t, however, write a worthless diatribe on myself, because that is not constructive. I elect instead to take this misstep and make something positive out of it.

We are all the custodians of our own destinies, and we must all try to do the absolute best with what we have to work with- sometimes you will have great successes and other times colossal failure, but if you don’t try time and time again, you will be left on your couch with nothing but a bucket of “What-ifs.” You have no choice in this life but to push forward and try to do the best you can.

My challenge to you, and myself, is to continue to press on and make the most of your adventure here on earth. At the end of your life you want to be sure that you’ve made your best effort to make a collection of epic stories. Some sorrowful ones, some happy ones and some downright amazing, but the challenge for you is to find and make the most of each of these adventures.

I made a lot of mistakes in this story- during the camp, during the fight- but the key to living life is learning from your mistakes and making positive change. I feel very positive right now, and I hope you feel the same way, I would be absolutely nothing without persistence and positive thinking, and if there is anything i want you to take from my blog it is that mentality. I will continue on this amazing journey, looking to make the most epic stories that I can.

I can’t tell you how much it means to me that you support me through good times and bad- but I can say that I will put every bit of effort I can muster to succeed in every area of my life, and I hope you’ll be right there to watch.

It now occurs to me the reason for this consciousness shift- not only the level of maturity that I have somehow ascertained, but also the people that I have surrounded myself with- the people that are closest to me- the people that support me, and I in turn support them. The people who more than likely won’t even read this blog, because they are so close to the source that they don’t notice the ramblings of my website. Since they won’t read this, I won’t thank them here. I will just encourage you, the reader to attempt to affect positive change on those around you, so that it is possible we bring the level of the entire planet up, just ever so slightly.

Being so close to the UFC world and training with both of those great warriors gives me some real perspective on where I am as a fighter, and I have to say that I’m happy with my progress.

Speaking of progress. A lot of it was made this week. I’m able to go hard for five rapid rounds and maintain my technique quite well. I’ve also incorporated a lot of new techniques that I feel comfortable doing that will definitely help for this fight.

Mister Bisping is in definite trouble for this fight. Even if he does not know it yet, he will find out on December 3rd.
